Rare earth ions doped lutecium aluminum garnet Lu3Al5O12(LuAG) can be used as an excellent laser material. It can generate different wavelength laser with corresponding rare earth ions. In this thesis, nano-powders have been prepared by two different methods, the optimum preparation conditions of both the two methods were studied:(1) Pr.LuAG and Sm:LuAG nano-powders prepared by co-precipitation method:NH4HCO3and NH3-H2O were used as precipitant, the molar rate is4:1, calcined at1100℃for2h, the solution pH obtained respectively is8and8.5;(2) Pr:LuAG and Sm:LuAG nano-powders prepared by low-temperature combustion method:the rate of metal ions and citric acid was1:1.5, calcined at1100℃respectively for2.5h and2h.The infrared spectra of the two precursor nano-powders were measured, and the vibration modes of the functional groups were analysed. The excitation spectra and emission spectra of the two precursor nano-powders were analyzed. The bands of Pr:LuAG powders at452nm and285nm were found the strongest, correspond to the3H4â†'3P2and4f (3H4)â†'5d transitions; the488nm4fâ†'4f characteristic emission of Pr ions in Pr:LuAG powders corresponds to the3Poâ†'3H4transition. The peak of Sm:LuAG powders at406nm was found the strongest. The two main emission bands of Sm:LuAG powders were obtained respectively at569nm and618nm, correspond to the G5/2â†'6H5/2and4G5/2â†'6H7/2transitions. The upconversion fluorescence spectrum of Pr:LuAG powders was measured, the emission peak at406nm was found the strongest.
