Phthalic acid esters (PAEs) are one of endocrine disruptors. They are widely used inproduction of plastic products, mainly as plasticizer in industrial production, to increase thetensile properties and suppleness of product. PAEs they are absorbed in human body mainlythough the food chain, direct contact and breathing. PAEs are low volatile and toxicity, theycan make endocrine disorders and abnormal reproductive system when they accumulated to acertain extent in human body. Dibutyl phthalate, diethyl phthalate and dimethyl phthalate arelisted as environmental priority pollutants in our country. Therefore, there is a greatsignificance for determination of phthalic acid esters pollutants in environmental samples. Atpresent, the pre-processing method of PAEs are mainly solid phase extraction, solventextraction, ultrasonic extraction and microwave extraction method, and so on. The measuringmethod are mainly liquid chromatography, solid chromatography, fluorescence spectro-photometry, and so on. However, organic solvent are commonly used in these methods, leadto environmental pollution. Therefore, establishing a green separation analysis method is verynecessary.Ionic liquid aqueous two-phase (ILATP) is a “green” extraction system with highextraction rate, low viscosity, safe and no toxic. Although it has been used to the extraction ofa variety of substances, there is still no report for the research of extraction of PAEs by ionicliquid two-phase extraction.In this paper, a new method, ionic liquid aqueous two-phase extraction, for separation ofPAEs was established, it was applied for separation of PAEs in environmental samplessuccessfully. With the combination of high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC)method, a new approach was opened for the analysis of PAEs, a new direction was eapandedfor the research of ILATP, it has a broad development prospects. The effect of a variety offactors on extraction efficiency was investigated, the experimental conditions were optimized.The main research contents and conclusions are as follows:(1) The behavior of extraction of DBP in environmental samples by ILATP was studied, the effect of mainly factors on extraction efficiency was investigated. The recovery was80%~98.5%and relative standard deviation was in the range from1.69%to7.69%, when theDBP in tap water, lake water and industrial waste water was separated by ILATP anddetermined by HPLC, with the optimal experimental conditions: pH=6, concentration ofNaH2PO4aqueous was0.5mg/L, the amount of ionic liquid was2mL and extraction timewas5min.(2) The behavior of extraction of DEP in environmental samples by ILATP was studied,the effect of mainly factors on extraction efficiency was investigated. The recovery was92.8%~101.2%and relative standard deviation was in the range from1.61%to4.73%, whenthe DEP in tap water, lake water and industrial waste water was separated by ILATP anddetermined by HPLC, with the optimal experimental conditions: pH=7, concentration ofNaH2PO4aqueous was0.5mg/L, the amount of ionic liquid was2mL and extraction timewas5min.(3) The behavior of extraction of DMP in environmental samples by ILATP was studied,the effect of mainly factors on extraction efficiency was investigated. The recovery was93%~105.5%and relative standard deviation was in the range from1.58%to3.24%, whenthe DMP in tap water, lake water and industrial waste water was separated by ILATP anddetermined by HPLC, with the optimal experimental conditions: pH=6, concentration ofNaH2PO4aqueous was0.5mg/L, the amount of ionic liquid was2mL and extraction timewas5min.(4) The behavior of extraction of DBP、DEP and DMP in environmental samples byILATP was studied, the effect of mainly factors on extraction efficiency was investigated. Therecovery was91.7%~104.2%and relative standard deviation was in the range from1.7%to5.3%, when the DBP、DEP and DMP in tap water, lake water and industrial waste water wasseparated by ILATP and determined by HPLC, with the optimal experimental conditions:pH=5, concentration of NaH2PO4aqueous was0.5mg/L, the amount of ionic liquid was2mLand extraction time was6min.The research results shows that the ILATP is suitable for analysis of trace PAEs inenvironmental samples, with good selectivity and separation effect and no toxic or pollution.
