3TM/ETM remote sensing images of Xiyang County in2000a,2004a and2010a,combined with statistics, were taken as data for present study to analyze the quantity, rate andspatial characteristics of land use change, as well as landscape pattern in the study area during2000-2010. Ecological service value theory was adopted to assess the value of ecosystemservices and make dynamic analysis in Xiyang County for past10years. The ecological footprinttheory was taken to calculate ecological footprint of research area for10years with dynamicvariation. The main conclusions are as follows:Firstly, Land use change of Xiyang between2000and2010mainly occurred at the countysurrounding terrain along the river valley on both sides of the flat areas, and remote rural areasfar from the county. Accelerated development of land use change reflects urbanization andindustrialization that led to take up a large amount of arable land, while driving the agriculturalpopulation engaged in non-agricultural industries; However, the increase area that the Grain forGreen Project effect on woodland takes some time to appear.Secondly, From2000to2010, the total ecosystem service value of Xiyang Countycontinued to decline, and ecosystem service value of various land type is relevant to local landuse structure. The order in decreasing of the value of the ecosystem service functions is:conservation water and waste disposal, maintenance of biodiversity<food production to keepthe soil<release oxygen, carbon dioxide fixation. On the one hand, ecosystem service value toGDP ratio on the one hand rapid decline, which indicated that economic development has anegative impact on the ecological environment, on the other hand, economic growth much fasterthan the speed of ecological restoration, which indicating that Xiyang County’s economicdevelopment of ecological productive area encroachment is shrinking, the mode of economicdevelopment began to shift the stage of intensive development. Finally, Xiyang County’s10-year period of2000-2010ecological footprint change reflectsthe influence of land use change, the needs of society, economic development in the past10years on ecological footprint: Xiyang County’s socio-economic development on the part of theecological productive area has resulted in pressure, but the pressure is substantially reduced.Social needs grow with the population and the increasing living standards and so on. It is likelyto affect the ecology of a greater extent footprint needs, such as the numbers of motor vehicles, diet changes and so on.
