Research And Exploration For Patchwork Art On The Fashion Design

Patchwork is a cloth of hand-designed in accordance with a specific connection, whichstitches fabric scraps as a regular or irregular stitching pattern. In the low material levelagricultural society, due to the pressure of living, people re-collage old clothes or fabric edgesinto a new re-use of collage materials, which is the origin of the traditional patchwork art.However, in recent years, patchwork starts into more people’s lives as a popular decorativetechniques, and its cultural connotation has attracted more concerns of scholars and experts.The era and social backgrounds is different between traditional patchwork art and modern art,but the humanistic spirits and features conserving living resources have got more and moreattention and recognition, and set off a retro trend.At the present day, patchwork is not only a decorative technique by changing fabric colorand texture, many fashion designers also apply the patchwork art in the design field, as adesign inspiration, they apply it to different styles of clothing, in order to create a lot of goodworks. This paper finds that most of the domestic art books on patchwork teach theproduction process, but ignore the deeper ideological content. Therefore, by the culturalconnotation of the traditional quilting recalled, the application of today’s fashion design, trendanalysis, and comparison, the paper will start from using the patchwork art in the fashiondesign, and explore the cultural backgrounds and its aesthetic characteristics in the differenttimes, different regions and different art styles. According to the study and exploration,combing with our own viewpoint, we merge patchwork art with the idea of post modernismdesign together, compare and obtain resonance, making the patchwork art approach havebetter and more widely application in the field of design.Postmodern ideology and the spirits contents of the patchwork art in the fashion designbring out the best in each other. Postmodern thoughts expression is a way to break thetraditional rules of break off or broken, but patchwork art itself has broken, separation, thereorganization of features. Gradually, patchwork art has become explanation postmodernismcarrier of design idea. In the day of rich material and rapid development of science and technology, the purpose of this paper is that we hope there are more designers could grasp thepatchwork art, give us deeper insight meaning, promote green designs, focus on the designconcept of environment protection and energy conservation, and provide low-carbon,diversified and liberalized design for our life.
