Although these two leaders lived in the same period, their costumes weredistinctly different because of the different living countries, especially the clothes onthe upper body and the accessories using as the belt at the waist. This thesis elaboratesthe upper outer garments and the accessories at the waists of the two leaders based oncultures and historical materials, and analyzes the upper outer garments and theaccessories at the waist in ceremonial occasions, daily life situations and militaryactivities at the base of the costume systems, so it is possible to find the differentcharacteristics and the cultures of the different costumes of different leaders from themiddle of17th century to the beginning of18th century.Through literature studies, it’s discovered that, there are distinguishedexhibitions on the costumes of the two leaders about the fashion cultures, which arecomprehensive and intrapersonal oriental costume culture, and unconstrained andassertive western costume culture, respectively. At the same time, the studies provethe law named “resemblance without reason” of the costume history. The costumes ofEmperor Kangxi combine the practicability of the northern costumes and the etiquetteof the Chinese emperors’ costumes merging Man’s and Han’s cultures together, andthen express the inclination of the theory that emperor’s power is from the will ofHeaven. And the Louis XIV’s costumes exhibits the magnificent characteristic ofBaroque period of European fashion history, which shows the well-developed textileindustry in France during that time. The costumes can reveal the economy, the policy,and the culture in one country. The costumes not only reveal the same and thedifferent between oriental costume culture and the western costume culture, but alsoreflect the differences of the national productivities and the differences of the national cultures.
