The oxygen index of unsaturated polyester is only19.6%, so it belongs to flammableproducts and has a great significance of inflaming retarding.Because of the extensiveavailability of brucite,non-corrosiveness and no toxic substances release when itdecompose,brucite is becoming a modern of nontoxic, flame retardant.But brucite is inorganicsubstance, it was easy to generate “gobbet” due to its high initiative surface energy,it shouldbe modified to improve its property.In this paper, titanic acid ester and stearic acid was used to modify the surface of brucite,According to the test of activation index,sedimentation time,viscosity of DOP mixed brucite,the good performance were obtained at the following condition of stearic acid:the best properamount is1.5%,the optimum dilution ratio using ethanol as dispersant:1/10,the modify time80min at room temperature.While the optimum condition of titanic acid ester by dry methodmodification as follows: the best proper amount is1%, the optimum dilution ratio usingisopropanol as dispersant1/20, the processing time should be more than60min at roomtemperature. The best formulation condition is1:3when stearic acid mixed with titanic acidester.Meanwhile,the modification mechanism of stearic acid and titanic acid ester has beenstudied.Brucite/UPR composite system was got by using mould for Casting.This paperinvestigated the fire retardant property of the composite material. The test result indicates thatthe flame retardant property was improved with the amount of brucite increased.It has been examined that the influences of the mechanical property with brucite andmodifier added in,the result indicates that,when the amount of brucite added was at the rangeof20%~50%,the tensile strength enhanced.But the influences of the impact property wasinstability.The mechanical property can improve when modifier added in,the effect ofmodifier formulation are better than single modifier.The physical performance of brucite/UPR composite material also has beenresearched,the results showed that density of composite material and dimentional stability was improved when the amount of brucite increased,and brucite can affect the shrinkingpercentage.Scanning electron microscope was used to analyse the topography,the gobbet ofbrucite decreased after modifying.Silver coated zeolum antibacterialagent and copper coated zeolum antibacterialagentwere prepared and used to compound UPR/brucite composite system.The mold resistence andlong residual action has been studied,the results showed that Silver coated zeolumantibacterialagent and copper coated zeolum antibacterialagent can improve the moldresistence,and the effect of Silver coated zeolum is better than that of copper coated zeolum,but antibiosis long residual action of copper coated zeolum is betterpreferably.
