Aluminum borate one-dimensional materials have excellent mechanical properties, high-temperature chemical stability, low thermal coefficient of expansion and much lower cost of production than the traditional reinforced material of silicon carbide. So it has been the hot spot of physics, chemistry and materials fields to research.In this paper, Al4B2O9and Al18B4O33nano whiskers were synthesized via a hydrothermal method at low temperature using borax, ammonia chloride and aluminum as raw materials. The structure and morphology of the as-prepared products were characterized by X-ray diffraction and field emission scanning electron microscope. The results showed that the product prepared at500℃was Al4B2O9nano whiskers. The length and diameter of Al4B2O9nano whiskers were affected by the mole ratio of borax to aluminum. The diameter of Al4B2O9nano whiskers was in the range of2O-3Onm and the length was in the range of600-800nm at the mole ratio of borax to aluminum of2:1. The as-prepared products became into Al18B4O33when the heating temperature was600℃. The possible formation mechanism of aluminum borate nao whiskers was proposed.
