Electroslag remelting technology is one of the most important methods for producing high grade special materials, since it has been invented. With the development of technology and society, the standard of ESR product’s cleanliness and performance become higher and higher. However there are many factors which can influence ESR product’s cleanliness, such as power supply system, slag system, slag amount, filling ratio, droplet, deoxidation system and operation process etc. Whereas slag system and droplet have important influence to ESR product’s cleanliness, so this paper use MC5steel which is used for cold roll to study the influence of interfacial properties of slag system and droplet on inclusion removal. This paper analyzes the influence of mass fraction of MgO and SiO2on interfacial properties of fluorine slag, and the influence of physical parameter and process parameters on the process of droplet formation. The results show that all slag system’s surface tension decrease while temperature increase. Surface tension increases with the increase of mass fraction of MgO, when it’s amount is in the range of10%-30%, and decreases with the increase of mass fraction of MgO when it’s amount is in the range of0%-8%. Surface tension decreases with the increase of mass fraction of SiO2for all slag system. The interfacial tension of A slag system increases with the increase of mass fraction of MgO. The interfacial tension of B, C slag system increase with the increase of mass fraction of MgO when it’s amount is in the range of10%-20%, it decrease with the increase of mass fraction of MgO when it’s amount is over20%. The increase of SiO2as surfactant makes interfacial tension decrease. The results of numerical simulation of droplet behavior show that the size of droplet decreases with the increase of interfacial tension and the decrease of slag viscosity. The decrease of current, depth of slag pool, electrode diameter and increase the angle of electrode tip can make droplet become bigger.
