Epoxy resin is a kind of thermosetting polymer materials with goodadhesion, electrical insulation and chemical stability, Which has a very wide fieldof application as resin matrix, such as coatings, adhesives and composites, etc.Due to the characteristics of molecular structure of epoxy resin, they can only bedissolved in organic solvent. Organic volatile that solvent-based epoxy resincontained not only causes some pollution to the environment, but also bringsgreat harm to the human. So the development of environmentally friendly water-based epoxy resin technology has become a hot spot in many countries.Waterborne epoxy resin emulsion was prepared by phase inversion methodin this paper. First of all, conventional emulsifier was modified, which was a kindof special epoxy resin emulsifier. The best synthesis condition: the molar ratio ofE44and K2SO4is1:2. Due to the hydrophilic chain segment and structure ofepoxy resin were similar, the epoxy resin had excellent emulsification effect. Theimportant influence of the emulsifier concentration, solid content and mechanicalstirring intensity on the stability of the emulsion had been discussed. When theconcentration of emulsifier was25wt%and the solid content higher than50wt%,emulsion was relatively stable under the condition of room temperature. And it isnot hierachical in3000r/min for30minutes, or which could be stored at roomtemperature for90days. The emulsion particle size was0.21-0.37μm in therange.Secondly waterborne epoxy resin curing agent with a low viscositytransparent liquid, was synthesize by E44and EDTA, benzyl glycidyl ether toseal side with a thinner, and then with glacial acetic acid into the preparation ofthe salt. And capped with diluent, benzyl ether, then neutralized to be salt withglacial acetic acid. The curing agent not only had good water solubility, but also had excellent emulsification. Through the analysis of infrared spectrum, theproduct structure contains a small amount of epoxy group and secondaryammonium salt, and conforms to the principle of experimental design. The studyalso showed that the curing agent storage period as long as90days, and thecuring agent had good water solubility and curability as salinity of20%.Finally curing reaction between waterborne epoxy emulsion and curingagent was been carried out in proportion. Results showed that the curing reactionwas more adequate, and comprehensive performance of cured product was best,When waterborne curing agent: amine hydrogen=1:1(molar ratio),salinity of20%and curing temperature was60℃.
