ATR-FTIR(Attenuated Total Internal Reflectance Fourier Transform Infrared spectroscopy) was used to research the micro-structures of polyurethane elastomer(PUE). The effects of temperature and time of post vulcanization on the microstructue and properties of PUE were studied by calculating the level of hydrogen bond. A couple of mixed chain extenders were used to improve each molecule structure and also the heat performance.(1)ATR-FTIR was effectively applied to analyze the polyurethane elastomer, without breaking the micro-structure. It was proven that the Coleman’s theories could be used to calculate the level of hydrogen bond between C=O and N-H by FTIR and ATR-FTIR. The results show that the changes trend of level of hydrogen bond and performance for polyurethane elstomer is consistent.(2)With the increase of post curing time, the level of hydrogen bond and mechanical strength of the samples have had the maximum. The sample by9hours post curing in100℃had the best level of hydrogen bonding N-H was94.74%, best level of hydrogen bond C=O’s was51.91%, the best tensile strength was16.9MPa, and the best tearing strength was26.7kN/m.(3) The polyurethane elastomers were synthesized by prepolymeric method for THEIC/TIPA as mixed chain extenders. When the molar ratio of THEIC and TIPA was3:2, sample had the best mechanical strength, while tensile strength reached up to28.5MPa, and tearing strength reached up to43.8kN/m-1, but in80℃and100℃, the mechanical strength of samples using mixed chain extenders had the worst performance. By DSC and TG analysis, it is shown that the samples with mixed chain extenders have a higher resolution temperature at425℃. This proved these samples have the better crosslinking structure.
