With the rapid development of the textile industry, polyester, nylon, acrylic and other chemical fibers were widely used in our daily life. Especially polyester, because of its outstanding properties, becomes one of the most important chemical fibers. But sizing is difficult for polyester due to its high degree of crystallinity and lack of polar groups. The size used recently is not satisfactory. At present, PVA is mostly used in polyester fiber and polyester cotton blended yarn. The film of PVA size is superior in the breaking strength and elongation, abrasion resistance and other physical-mechanical properties, while the adhesive for polyester fiber is weak. In addition, the PVA size is not environment friendly and difficult to desizing. So the use of PVA decreases in many countries, especially in developed countries. In china, the use of PVA reduces recently. The particular interest is to produce new kinds of sizes for polyester fibers which has high adhesion and desized easily and biodegradable.Ester exchange and condensation polymerization were used to synthetize the water-soluble polyester size. The properties of water-soluble polyester sizes depend on the properties and proportion of monomers. Monomers and synthetic conditions were chosen to get the better water-soluble polyester size. IR and NMR were used to study the construction of the size. The properties of polyester size, such as pH value, viscosity, surface force, the breaking tensile of the yarn, were tested. In Contrast to the water-soluble polyester size, the properties of mixture of the polyester size and PVA, the polyester size and starch, the polyester size and polyacrylate were tested. The water-soluble polyester size can adhere to the polyester fibers easily. It is a new kind of environment friendly size that may a good one to size the polyester fibers.
