In order to make up for the shortage of the traditional sound insulation materials, this articleselects the vermiculite and BaSO4to compound with polyvinyl chloride (PVC) resin.Vermiculite is a mineral with layered structure and good sound-absorbing properties, usuallyused as a hard sound absorption material in the field of construction. Beyond that, Vermiculite isqualitative light, fire prevention, and cheap, but its applications rarely be reported in the noisereduction areas. BaSO4is a heavy material with stable chemical properties and excellent lightresistance, corrosion resistance, etc. Because it can improve the rigidity, hardness, wearresistance, aging resistance of plastic products,it`s widely used in the modification of generalplastics and engineering plastics as a filler. This paper uses the vermiculite, BaSO4to compoundwith PVC resin, by compounding vermiculite, BaSO4and PVC resin, to study its soundinsulation, flame retardant and mechanical properties, and hope it can provides a reference forresearch and development of sound insulation materials.This paper focuses on grain/PVC-composite material as the research object, mainly studiedon the sound insulation properties, mechanical property and flame retardant property ofPVC-composite material compound with vermiculite and BaSO4. Firstly,grain/PVC soundinsulation composite material was prepared through a series of working procedures includingmix,bake and dry and so on. Then use the SEM, Two-channel acoustic analyzer, dynamicthermo mechanical analysis apparatus, universal material testing machine, Oxygen indexapparatus to observe the structural morphology, test the sound insulation property, dampingcapacity, mechanical property and flame retardant property of these PVC based compositematerials, in this way, different kinds of properties of these composite materials could becompared and improved.The main conclusions are as follows:(1)Vermiculite/PVC composite material is a kind of composite material with light qualityand good sound insulation performance. Sound pressure level has no big effect on soundinsulation quantity of the material. Under similar surface density, the increasing packing ratio makes the sound insulation quantity of the composite materials obviously increased in mediumand high frequencies. With the increase of areal density, sound insulation performance ofcomposite materials increase quickly at the beginning, then gradually slow, so just increase theareal density of the material to improve the sound insulation quantity is not an ideal way;vermiculite is helpful to improves the sound insulation properties, and makes the compositematerial has good flame retardant and smoke suppression, but reduces the tensile mechanicalproperties of composite materials, increase the stiffness of composite materials.(2) Under similar surface density, the increasing content of BaSO4helps to improvethe sound insulation quantity of the BaSO4/PVC composite material in high frequencies, andmakes the flame retardant of the BaSO4/PVC composite material be better. Using BaSO4tocompound with Vermiculite/PVC composite material can not only improve the sound insulationperformance of composite material, but also improve the processability of the composite material.With the increasing content of BaSO4, the sound insulation performance and flame retardantperformance of BaSO4/vermiculite/PVC composite material is further improved, but the tensilemechanical properties decrease, and stiffness increased.
