This paper’s research contents come from Qingtongxia Aluminum Company subordinate to China Power Investment Corporation, which is a part of the topic "Development of350kA Reduction Cell Roasting Automatic Control System" undertook by NCUT’s Metallurgy Process of Non-Ferrous Metals Modern Testing Technologies and Equipment Engineering Technology Research Center. This paper has two key emphases of study, of which one is to conduct the final simulation tests on the roasting control system in the laboratory, and the other is to conduct the actual application tests on the scene. These two jobs are also the last two key links in this topic.To ensure reliability service of the device, in accordance with on-site environment of aluminum electrolysis factory, a simulation experiment platform is established in the lab; and on the basis of preliminary work of research group, a number of simulation experiments of roasting automatic control has been conducted by simulating the starting process of electrolytic roasting. And a thorough research has been conducted about the change of shunt volume, the change of temperature in shunt, and the shunt effect of shunt, the heat dispersion of splitter, the lighting situation of moving and static contact of shunt switch when roasting. In order to guarantee the on-site application of this device, a continued tracking experiment for more than3months has been done about the reliability of the control system and mechanic drive system. Then the way of controlling, the matching of electrical components and the requirements of machine design and processing can be improved based on the laboratory finding. The research work of this paper makes the roasting automatically control system developed by the research group able to satisfy the roasting launch requirement of the aluminum electrolytic cell and achieve the expected simulation test result.Based on the simulation test in the laboratory, the aluminum electrolytic cell roasting automatically control system was used to conduct automatically control in the roasting launch process of four electrolytic cells including8211respectively in the350kA cell room of the branch company of Qingtongxia Aluminum Industry in2013. The application result showed that the control system ran stably, which was safe and reliable and realized the whole course control over the electrolytic cell roasting process and achieved the designed function and the expected result.A further optimized design proposal is put forward after a conclusion and data analysis of on-site application. It makes the roasting automatic control system in aluminum reduction cells developed by our research group become a set of mature technique and device.
