The transportation and storage losses of oil products are of the key parts in the losses of oil products of refineries. The transportation and storage losses of oil products, comparing to that in oil refining process, could be optimized and reduced. This work analyzed the potential sources of oil products losses, and the key factors were summarized. A statistic model of the oil products loss in transportation and storage were built by calculating the loss in each processing unit. The transportation and storage losses of Wuhan Branch of SINOPEC were also predicted based on the theoretical models, which was consistent with the practical values. Result shows that transportation and storage losses are about0.303%of the total products, which occupies42.22%of the total losses. About61.9%of the losses mainly rely on the management, which could be reduced by optimizing the managing strategy. On the other hand, about38.1%of the losses are the vaporization losses of oil products in storage, which depends on the quality of the storage facilities and facility manipulation. The vaporization loss could be decreased by improving the facility technology. Several methods have been used for lowering the vaporization losses of oil products. An airtighting vehicle loading and oil and gas recovery technology was implemented. The inner floating roof tank was also improved. The nitrogen sealing facilities of the light oil tank and the floating roof tank were also used. These means greatly reduced the gasoline and diesel oil losses in the storage and loading process, which was caused by the volatilization loss. A new mechanical crude oil tank cleaning technology and an automatic water cutting equipment were used for decreasing the losses. These methods greatly reduced the cleaning time and cleaning oil losses. The safety of the cleaning process was also improved.
