In this paper, some parameters, such as water quality and quantity, are analyzed during operation in a wastewater treatment plant. According to the existing problems, new ideas to improve wastewater treatment are proposed.Based on the original ICEAS (Intermittent Cyclic Extended Areation System) process, BAF is connected in series to form IICEAS (Improvement of Intermittent Cyclic Extended Aeration System, referred to as IICEAS) process for purification of wastewater. The different operation performances of IICEAS and ICEAS are discussed, and several contaminant removal efficiencies are compared, including COD, BOD5, NH3-N, SS and TP. The results confirmed that IICEAS process has the advantages of less occupied area, high removal efficiency, strong load of shoch resistance and low energy consumption. After the long-time operation of IICEAS, the removal efficiencies of COD, BOD5, SS, NH3-N and TN are improved1.66%,1.12%,4.31%,23.82%and11.62%, respectively compared with ICEAS process. The results show the good application prospect of IICEAS process for urban sewage treatment plant.
