Gas tungsten arc welding were used widely for stability of arc in modern welding applications. It has the advantage of high quality of welded joints, heat and filler wire can be controlled, and therefore easy to adjust the heat input, so this can be a full range of welding welding method, also the ideal way to achieve the molding side welding. To solve this problem, in the1960s Barton Welding Institute presents A-TIG welding method, because of its good quality and good economic welding in the field of welding widespread international attention. For high-end cutting tools, When the welding must be overall preheating, and the quality of welding joint is not stable. A-TIG was selected in the experiments to study the effects of fluxes on the shape of the weld for the knife back of430stainless steel and steel blade of sandwich (3Cr13-1Crl7-3Crl3) stainless steel. Researches have been carried out in this paper on the differences between A-TIG and TIG on the weld penetration depth, the microstructure of the weld bead and anti-erode performance and of the weld bead. The results showed that as the welding speed increases, Weld width decreases, however, when the welding speed for180mm/min, good welding with back formation. With the increase of welding current, welding penetration depth and width are increasing, when welding current is125A,at this time the weld is perfect; As the welding arc length increases, increasing weld penetration, when the welding arc length is3mm, the maximum penetration. The experimental results show that Satisfied joint with excellent front and back formation between the knife back of430stainless steel and steel blade of sandwich (3Cr131lCr17-3Cr13) stainless steel can be achieved by A-TIG welding method. The microstructure connection of joint was well and had no defects. The joint had tensile strength of606MPa; the HAZ is very narrow. The weld grains are refined. A-TIG doesn’t reduce anti-erode performance. So, compared with the TIG progress, A-TIG can reduce cost and improve the production efficiency, Can be developed into a new method for high-end cutting tools welding.
