Currently, in terms of supplementary charge of the detonation deformable warhead,plane-wave generator and explosive metalworking, a sheet explosive which has goodplasticity and can be easily bended deformation is needed to meet their various requirementsof explosives in mechanical properties and reliable convergence booster, etc. As a polymerbonded mixture explosive, rubber explosive has good mechanical properties and can be madeinto different shapes, which could meet the requirements of above all charges. In addition, itcan be made of1mm or thinner sheet explosives, which can satisfy the requirements of somespecial plane-wave generator for smaller thickness sheet explosives.In this paper, the formulation and preparation of thin sheet rubber explosives werestudied. Through the screening of adhesives, the preparation process was improved for theformulation of the selected silicone rubber system, which firstly sulfide before the rollingprocess. And the vulcanization was divided into two stage, in the first stage the sulfidationtemperature is45℃, curing time is30min, the second one is90℃, the curing time is2h. Byadjusting the components of the formulation, a sheet rubber explosive formula was obtained.It can be reliably and stably detonated, and the critical thickness was≤0.4mm. Theproportion of PETN, MVQ silicone rubber system and RTV silicone rubber system is85%,9%and6%. The rubber explosive has the smooth surface and a certain toughness. It could bebent and folded. So it can meet the application requirements.The differential scanning calorimetry(DSC)method was used to characterize thecompatibility of the rubber explosive, and its microstructure, thermal performance,mechanical sensitivity and detonation properties were studied. The results showed that theadmixture was mixed evenly in the preparation process. And its decomposition peaktemperature was206.9℃, the compositions of rubber explosive were compatible. Its impactsensitivity was32%and the friction sensitivity was36%.While tablet thickness of rubber explosive was0.6mm and its density was1.50g/cm~3, the detonation velocity could reach to6850m/s.Through researching the formulation and preparation, a sheet rubber explosive wasobtained. It has good mechanical performance, small critical detonation diameter,and suitablesensitivity. The performance study of thin sheet flexible rubber explosive laid the foundationfor its application in the small size charge.
