The Research On The Relationship Between The Economic Growth And Environmental Pollution In Zhejiang Province

Since the reform and opening up, Zhejiang promoted market reform and the economicaldevelopment of market has made huge success. The environmental problem of Zhejiang isbecoming more and more serious following the rapid economic development, especially thatZhejiang makes modernization under the shortage of resources and small region, as well asthe over-exploitation of resources, which all make the situation of environmental pollutionvery serious. Under the level of economic and social development, this article used theclustering method to divide the11cities in Zhejiang province and then analyzed. This couldsatisfy the homogenous assumption of Kuznets curve (EKC), and the results could reflect therelationship between economic growth and environmental pollution in Zhejiang provincemore reliable. What’s more, it makes more meaningful to build environmental friendly andresource-saving society as well as sustainable development.This paper studied the relationship of Zhejiang province between economic growth andenvironmental pollution respectively from two aspects, both theory and practice. On thetheoretical research, first discussed the present situation of economic growth andenvironmental pollution in Zhejiang province, and then stated the mutual effect betweenthem under the influence mechanism. In the empirical, I used the factor analysis method tobuild a comprehensive environmental pollution index through six industrial environmentalpollution indicators. Then used cluster analysis to divide the eleven cities in Zhejiangprovince into three groups, finally studied the relationship between economic growth andenvironmental pollution comprehensive index in each group separately, and based on this,offered some proposals.Based on the research on the relationship between economic and environment inZhejiang province, we can conclude:Firstly, The EKC curve of different groups in Zhejiang is different. That is, therelationship between economic and environment is distinct under different levels ofeconomic development.Secondly, the estimated results of environmental Kuznets curve largely depend on thesample data of area and model which selected, the relationship between economy andenvironment has otherness.Thirdly, according to the model we built with the11cities in Zhejiang province, wefound that the constant terms in different parts are different. This is because theenvironmental pollution emission is related with other factors in the case Per Capita GDP iszero, such as industrial structure, population quality, environmental policy, import and export and so on.Fourthly, according to the model of each region, we found that the curve of environment–economy in Zhejiang and the three groups are respectively inverted u-shaped,“N”, thelinear increment and the inverted u-shaped. Besides, the Per Capita GDP of Zhejiang is nearthe inflection points, and the three groups are respectively in the rising stage of curve, in therising stage of the linear and in the decline phase of the curves by calculating inflectionpoints.
