At present China has been a production and consumption power of jewelry,inwhich the annual processing capability of gold products has achieved600tonsaccounting for25%of the total processing capability of gold products in the world.What’s more, China has been the largest platinum jewelry consumption power duringthe past five years, the second largest diamond processing power and the fifth largestdiamond jewelry consumption power in the world. We can see the development ofChinese jewelry industry from the traditional manual machining before1990s, theapplication of CAD software and linear cutting technology as the popularization anddeveloping of computer technology in the late1990s to the development of rapidprototyping technology in the field of jewelry processing after entering the21stcentury. But the application and development of computer technology in the field ofjewelry processing is relatively lagging comparing with the developed countries inEurope and America. Jewelry processing is an industry of precious raw materials andlow loss demand but the traditional manual machining is a single and high lossproduction mode. Computer technology can just save the production cost andimprove the productivity for enterprises through the high-efficiency and standardizedoperation. At present most jewelry manufacturing enterprises still give priority to thetraditional manual processing way, which is because the lack of the auxiliaryapplication of computer technology and failure in finding a production modelconsidering computer technology as the production core to serve the whole industrychain, which is very important.The aim of this paper is on the basis of all of the above background of theindustry demand. Firstly, the author analyzes the traditional processing mode of thejewelry industry to find the reason which influences or restricts the production anddeveloping of enterprises. Accordingly, the author proposes a production modelconsidering computer technology as the production core on the basis of his practicaland scientific research experience. Then the advantages of the new proposingproduction model is compared with the traditional production mode and checked in production practice, which has made some achievements. The author thinks that thecombination of computer technology such as CAD and rapid prototyping and theactual production demand can achieve multiple “simultaneous engineering” of thejewelry industry chain from “products research and development”,“productpromotion” to “product manufacturing”.
