Decorate Characteristics Of Phoenix Coronet Of Ming Dynasty And Its Enlightenment On Modern Jewellery Design

Phoenix coronet is the most beautiful and luxurious in ancient China to decoratewomen. Phoenix coronet is an inevitable product of a social and cultural development,which is through the shape and decorative pattern to reflect the social cultural contentmainly. In the Ming Dynasty, the royal phoenix coronet is given more serious politicalsignificance, which not only represents the highest technology of the era and aestheticcharacteristics, but also reflects the etiquette culture and customs of the royal. This essaytakes a study method of field investigating anthropology and graphics. With a cluefunction, it will do the research on the origin of phoenix coronet, the plastic arts ofphoenix coronet, longitudinal analysis of the phoenix coronet modeling in the MingDynasty.Though the research of unearthed artifacts and historical records to know thehistory of phoenix coronet. Phoenix coronet is an inevitable product of a social andcultural development. Due to the history and political system and culture, phoenix coronetwas worn only by an empress in the Song Dynasty (960-1127AD). In the Ming Dynasty,phoenix coronet was set many kinds of gemstones, which is the peak of it.The plastic arts of phoenix coronet is very exquisite. It features four basiccharacteristics as follows:(1) The plastic arts of phoenix coronet is not only to satisfywearing function and the aesthetic function, but also to satisfy the subjective idea ofruling class in that time.(2) The phoenix coronet decorative patterns is the representationof culture, that can reflect the mainstream culture and social status. Dragon and Phoenix,clouds and other traditional patterns focus more on social status than on aesthetic one,with a strong symbolic meaning of the rights, grade, ethics, religion etc...(3) Thematerials of phoenix coronet reflects the state of the Ming Dynasty jewelry technology,gemstone deposits and the business.(4) The ornamenting language, art style and culturemeanings of phoenix coronet are fixed in a relatively stable statement. Based on the study of the art of Ming Dynasty phoenix coronet, I have created aseries of two works:《Language of flowers》and《Phoenix dancing》.《Language offlowers》 was crafted out of kingfisher, for the design of display the flower blooming onthe body.《Phoenix dancing》was crafted out of filigree, which design was inspired by theplastic arts of phoenix coronet.
