Homemade ink, domestic GL-100ink and mikuni ink imported from Japan are studied by the rhelogical ananlysis of steady shearing and dynamic scanning combined with the measurement of particle size. Internal structure of the ink and the pigment dispersion were analyzed by comparing the rheological properties and the average particle size. The changes of the internal structure and the pigment agglomeration of ink stored at room temperature and high temperature were studied. The results showed that the commonly used method to characterize stability of the ink by short-term storage under high temperature was inadvisable The pigment dispersion of two laboratory homemade ink and domestic GL-100ink is not better than mikuni ink. The average particle size is more larger and there are more loose aggregates inside the two laboratory homemade ink and domestic GL-100ink. And the three-dimensional structure in the two laboratory homemade ink and domestic GL-100ink is not very stable. The consistency index of mikuni ink is larger, probably because the volume of the pigment particles in the ink is larger or the molecular weight of the thickener used is larger and the thickerner is more branched.A new method for characterization of the lubricity of gel ink was proposed by measuring the length of the ball protruded from the nib after writing. And the feasibility of the method was preliminarily verified by experimental results. The effect of lubricants of triethanolamine oleate (FM) and dilaureth-10phosphate (DP) on the performance of ink was investigated. The results show that the lubricant can reduce the surface tension of the ink, increase the viscosity, but has little impact on the amount of ink drain. The composition of the two water-based lubricant can make the gel ink have better lubricity. When the weight ratio of lubricants in the ink was0.5%FM with0.5%DP or3.5%FM with1%DP, the gel ink has good lubricity, and the ink can be written continuously more than800m.Based on the previous research of the team on gel ink, the development of red gel ink was carried in this paper. The color paste of Permanent Red pigment was developed by the optimization experiments of the kind and the dosage of pigments and dispersants. And by adjusting the formulation, the red gel ink was developed. The performance of the red gel ink prepared in this paper is comparable to the samples of high quality collected from the market.
