This paper studies the numerical control software system of a series-parallel laser cutting machine tool. For a range of issues, such as slow cutting speed and large vibration, a new type series-parallel laser cutting machine is presented in this paper. Combining with the characteristics of the structure, a supporting NC software system is developed, which is able to switch between series and parallel modes, and the speed, precision and machining efficiency are improved.According to the characteristics and the development trend of laser cutting machine tools, a new type series-parallel laser cutting machine is designed, which combines the characteristics of the structure of series and parallel machine tools. In the process of CNC system development, studied the intelligent switch problem between series and parallel way, and established intelligent switch mode based on the motion smooth, solved the control motion problem of the series-parallel mechanism. It reduced the use of series way in the largest extent, and reduced motion frequency of the gantry bracket, shortened the moving distance, the processing efficiency is improved by the more series motion and the less motion of the gantry. For the openness of the NC software, the entire numerical control software is built on a modular design concept, which allows the software to generate G codes automatically with graphic files, to examine the G codes with self-developed G code compiler, in which the motion planning of the parallel construction is based on the extraction and judgment of G code movement command. The NC software also has the characteristic of G code path simulation. The kinematics analysis of the machine tool is conducted, and the simulation and analysis of the movement path under both series and parallel modes are presented in this paper.By studying the characteristics of the new type series-parallel structure, kinematics and inverse kinematics solution of the structure is deduced, which provides the basis for the analysis of velocity and acceleration. Through the analysis of kinematics such as position, velocity and workspace, the kinematic characteristics of the structure is deduced, and the singularity posture of the structure is inspected. In terms of interpolation algorithm, the NC software uses time division interpolation and B-Spline interpolation, which achieves rapid interpolation speed and high accuracy in cutting process.
