Cutting is a kind of machinery processing method, which cut off extra material from the workpiece blank in order to reach the target geometry shape, dimensional accuracy and surface quality. In order to improve it’s productivity and quality, it is needed to study the cutting mechanism and machined surface residual stress. In the field of modern study, the computer simulation method has become an effective means to study the machining process. The process of metal machining, the producing process of residual stress and the method to reduce residual stress were simulated based on the finite element software DEFORM-3D in this paper. It reveals the physical phenomenon of temperature field and stress field in the whole of machining process, to the study of the cutting mechanism and the residual stress has important practical significance. This paper mainly studies the following two aspects:(1) Analyzed the metal cutting processing principle, and introduced the physical phenomenon of chip, the develop tumor, cutting force, cutting temperature. Established and Simulated the finite element model based on geometric modeling, meshing, material modeling and the setting of the boundary condition and the friction.(2) In view of the residual stress has an important impact of the quality on the parts and the use of performance. Analyzed the producing process, the value and the distribution of the workpiece residual stress base on the computer simulation. Simulated the process of the combining with the reasonable process of heat treatment to reduce residual stress.Through the above research can get the following conclusion:(1)The influence of Chip deformation coefficient, cutting force, cutting temperature and residual stress by the different cutting tool rake angle, cutting speed, cutting depth has regularity. It is an important reference basis for the study of the cutting mechanism and the residual stress.(2)Through the annealing treatment, the residual stress of the workpiece has been sharply reduced, it proved the effectiveness of the treatment plan.
