A traditional DSC contains three components, a photoanode(TiO2is widely used as the semiconductor), an electrolyte(commonly comprises a I3-/I-redox couple) and a CE. Pt is one of the CE catalytic materials. Moreover, I3-/I-electrolyte can corrode the expensive Pt. Therefore, developing Pt-free materials with higher activity and lower cost is very important.Under the same conditions, electro-catalytic activities of three kinds of different materials were compared detailed. These materials were In2S3, NiS and Pt. The experimental results showed that the catalytic activity of In2S3was worst with the energy conversion efficiency of5.06%, energy conversion efficiency of NiS was6.04%, the Pt had the highest catalytic efficiency with the energy conversion efficiency of7.59%. The NiS was the best among two sulfide materials. Furthermore, we investigated the electro-catalytic mechanisms of the sulfide materials for the redox reaction of the couple (I3-/I-) were by cyclic voltammetry, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, and Tafel-polarization curve experiments.
