This paper is focus on the wear-resisting coating for transparent polycarbonate material. As aromatic polycarbonate material has excellent optical performance and mechanical properties, it is widely used in the fields of aviation, aerospace, vehicles and so on. However, the poor performance of polycarbonate material, such as wear resistance, hydrolysis resistance, UV-resistant, alkali resistance, and poor resistance to varies solvents, restricts the application of polycarbonate material.Various solutions are provided to the protective coating surface of transparent polycarbonate by researchers all over the world. One of the principal methods is to paint wear-resisting coating in the material surface. The wear-resisting coating needs to have good UV absorption, and also prevents the hydrolysis of polycarbonate. In the early stage of polycarbonate coating development, the main target is the wear-resisting performance, and transparency is taken into account. Along with the expansion of transparent polycarbonate application fields, the features of U V absorption and polycarbonate hydrolysis preventing are gradually developed. Several wear-resistant coating for transparent polycarbonate are formed:the silicon-based polysiloxane wear-resisting coating, acrylic UV curing coating, polyurethane wear-resisting coating and inorganic coating, wherein the polyurethane coating is relying on the elasticity of the coating to ensure good coating wear resistance, while wear resistance of the other coatings are ensured by improving the hardness of the coating.In this paper, the development of a silicon based polysiloxane coating is reported. With alkoxy silane monomer modified silica sol, the nano-silica particles with hardening function was introduced to the system to ensure the coating has good wear resistance; by introducing certain amount fluorine-containing siloxane monomer in the alkoxysilane modification process while controlling the polymerization degree of the coating, it possesses certain amount of water hydrophobicity after curing, which prevents water contacting with the polycarbonate material, and improved hydrolysis resistance of the polycarbonate parts; by synthesizing alkoxy capped polymer polycarbonate chain-containing polymer as an adhesion promoter, the wear-resistant coating has good adhesion; the introduction of nano titania particles in coating enhanced coating UV absorption ability, ensure the coating has better UV absorption feature; proper solvents are adopted during the production process so that that coating has a great workability performance with all these good features.The wear-resisting coating for transparent polycarbonate material, obtained via proper construction and curing from well produced coating, shows great wear resistance, adhesion, transparency, UV absorption properties and effectively prevents the hydrolysis of polycarbonate.
