This paper used waste glass fiber powder and flat glass scrap as raw material, thepredominantly closed porosity foam glass was prepared using powder sintering method.First used to design the composition of the batch of foam glass, determine the optimumdosage of auxiliary additives. With the orthogonal experiment method to determine thebest sintering process system. Using the thermal analysis (DTA, TG), electronic universalmaterial testing machine (HLD HLT), X-ray fluorescence (XRF), X-ray diffractionanalysis (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM) and other modern testing means, thepore structure and properties of foam glass are studied. By establishing the mathematicalmodel and the preparation of two kinds of foam glass as an example, analyzes the poreforming mechanism of foam glass, particle size of the foaming agent and sinteringtemperature on the influence of the pore forming process of foam glass. Concrete researchcontent and the experimental results are as follows:(1) In this paper, foam glass as thermal insulation material was prepared from wasteglass fiber powder by powder-sintering method, the SiC as foaming agent within theprocess. The influences of sintering temperature, holding time and heating rate on porestructure, apparent density, porosity and compression strength were studied. The resultsshow that, with upgrading the sintering temperature and holding time, apparent density offoam glass declined, average pore size gradually increasing and at the same timeconnecting pore appear. Under the conditions of sintering temperature of940℃andholding time of30min, the product is with apparent density0.46g/cm3, compressionstrength3.81MPa and the pores of the bubble size of1~3mm more than80%.(2) Mixed with Sb2O3pores of foam glass were polyhedron and bulk density was higher.So when studied the auxiliaries effect on foam glass, did not add Sb2O3. The effect ofvarious proportions of silicon carbide, sodium carbonate and boric acid on pore structureand performance were investigated. The results show that, the pore diameter of sample isincreasing gradually at first and then stabilizes with content of silicon carbide increasing.Sodium carbonate not only improves the foaming ability by reducing glass viscosity butalso influences the crystallization. The bulk density and compressive strength aredecreasing with content of sodium carbonate increasing. The mixed boric acid have the effect of stabilizing foam agent. Under the auxiliary additives of silicon carbide, sodiumcarbonate and boric acid content of3wt%,20wt%,3wt%respectively, the bulk density ofproduct is0.68g/cm3, compression strength is5.84MPa, and water absorption is0.47%.The phases of the foam are wollastonite and moissanite.(3) Foam glass was prepared from waste glass fiber powder by powder-sintering methodunder lower sintering temperature. Analyses the different mechanism of foaming agent andthe effect on the properties of foam glass. In order to investigate the influence ofgranularity of compound foaming agent about the foam glass. The influences of sinteringtemperature and holding time on pore structure, apparent density, porosity andcompression strength were studied.(4)Mainly discussed the preparation of foam glass powder sintering method, the formationof air bubbles in the glass melts, grew up, and failure process. Exported the relationbetween the particle size of the foaming agent and foam glass aperture, and compared withtest results of fitting. In the sintering stages of foam glass, according to the difference ofpressure and pressure inside and outside membrane of air bubbles inside and outside isestablished on bubble diameter and the function relation between the pressure andtemperature parameters. Theoretically analyses the glass melt viscosity and surface tensionon the functional mechanism in foaming process of foam glass.
