With the destruction of the global environment and strained energy supplies, peoplehave began to pay more attention on the environment protection and the rational use ofresources, and set green manufacturing standards for the modern manufacturing industry, especially higher requirements for the foundry industry. So a kind of non-toxic,non-polluting and environmentally-friendly foundry adhesive materials is concerned by thefoundry industry. Animal glue is a natural organic macromolecular material, and ispolycondensed by various amino acids. It is a binder material and it’s not only rich inresources but also environment-friendly. It can be used in many industries. In order tobetter applications in large batch production, the paper main research on the hydrolysis andprepare processing of animal glue, and the modification mechanism. The main researchcontents and results are as follows. The paper studies the hydrolysis process of animal glue at first. The hydrolysisproperty was characterized by NDJ-1rotating viscometer and SWY hydraulic universalstrength testing machine. Through the phenomenon and data of experiment, the resultsindicated that animal glue can be dissolved in the water under the action of basiccatalyst(NaOH). The mass ratio of bone glue and water is4:4, the quantity of sodiumhydroxide is6%of animal glue, the reaction time and temperature of alkaline hydrolysis is35min and55℃.The modification and synthesizing technique of the animal glue were studied. Thoughthe effect of alcohols-modified and starchy-modified, glycerin, ethanol, soluble starch anddextrin were chose as modifier. The optimal proportion of the four modifiers wasaccounted for10%by an orthogonal experiment. And the best modification temperatureand time was75℃and90min. The paper analyzed the structure and properties of themodified-animal glue and modification mechanism by IR, TGA and so on. The resultshowed that the graft copolymerization and esterification reaction of the functional groupchanged the structure and properties of animal glue, improved its fluidity under normal temperature and increased its adhesion property. And then, on the basis of the above study, the paper studied the effects factors ofthermal-cured process and technological properties, such as the ratio between modifiedbinder and sand, drying time and temperature, storage time, collapsibility of core and gasevolution. The results showed that the modified animal glue binder had good technologicalproperties, and be able to fit for the requirement of green core-casting.
