This paper has reported the study of graft copolymerization of alkene monomers onto Poly (ethylene terephthalate) (PET) redox initiated using [Ni(IV)]> [Cu(III)] as initiators and was discussed in three sections. In the first chapter, on the one hand, the development and the present research situation of Ni(â…£),Cu(â…¢) as well as the graft copolymerization of PET were cited and elaborated; on the other hand, it was set forth that employing the above super valence trans-metals to initiate the graft copolymerization of alkene monomers onto macromolecule, PET, has important current and theoretical significance.Secondly, the redox system made up of Ni(â…£), Cu(â…¢), and PET was employed to initiate the graft copolymerization of alkene monomers onto PET backbone. The grafting parameters have been determined as a function of temperature, time concentrations of monomer, PET and initiator. The structure of the graft copolymers was confirmed by Fourier transfrorm infrared spectroscopy (IR), scanning electron microscope (SEM), X-ray diffraction, Differential Scanning Calorimetric (DSC) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The moisture regain of the graft copolymer was tested as well. And hen, the copolymers were used as the compatiblizer between PET and PMMA. The transfer graft mechanism was proposed based on literature and characteristic.Thirdly, Cu(â…¢)-polyamide 6 redox intiation systems were employed to initiate the grafting copolymerization of alkene monomers, the characteristic indicate that alkene monomers was successfully grafted, The redox graft mechanism was proposed based on literature and characteristic. Finally, Cu(III)- starch redox intiation systems were employed to initiate the grafting copolymerization of styrene monomers, the characteristic indicate that styrene monomers was successfully grafted, The redox graft mechanism was proposed based on literature and characteristic.
