As one of the earliest industrialization plastic varieties, Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) is also a larger output of a common plastic. Because of PVC with good comprehensive performance (high mechanical strength, good chemical stability), make it become a very versatile polymer. Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) plastic has many excellent advantages, such as resistance to acid and base, wear resistance, burning resistance and insulation, etc. But there are still some serious flaws, for instance, the poor thermal stability, easy to brittle fracture and poor aging resistance. Therefore, PVC resin modified study has been one of research hotspots in the field of polymer material. Studies on the compatibility of PVC blend system is in focus.A series of PVC/α-MSAN/DOP and PVC/PMMA/DOP blends were prepared by melt blending polyvinyl chloride (PVC), phthalate dioctyl (DOP), α-methyl styrene-acrylonitrile copolymer (α-MSAN), and poly methyl methacrylate (PMMA), respectively. Compatibility and phase morphology of the blends were investigated by using DMA and SEM. It was found that:(1) PVC/α-MSAN blends were completely compatible system. However, after introducing10%DOP in the blends, PVC and α-MSAN were still compatible. But the phase separation took place when the blends introduced20%and30%DOP. And with the increase of content of DOP phase separation degree is increasingly obvious. It was proved that introducing DOP in the blends destroyed the molecular reaction between PVC and α-MSAN.(2) PVC/PMMA blends were completely compatible system. After introducing DOP in the blends, PVC and PMMA were still compatible. It is found that introducing DOP in the blends did not destroyed the intermolecular hydrogen bonding interaction between PVC and PMMA.(3) The interaction between DOP and α-MSAN is weaker than the interaction between DOP and PVC, PMMA. For PVC/α-MSAN/DOP blends,|△X|is the difference of the interaction parameters between DOP with PVC and α-MSAN. With it increasing, causing the system serious phase separation occurred. While the PVC/PMMA blends were completely compatible system.
