Dibasic acid magnesium (DAM), as a novel kind of organic chemical product, hasattracted tremendous attentions due to its better thermal stability, chemical stability,anti-hydrolysis and non-toxicity. So, DAM and its derivatives are applied widely incatalytic area and preparation of high value-added product. In this thesis, the natural magnesium chloride or primary products of magnesium ore(magnesium oxide, magnesium hydrate or others) is chosen as raw materials to prepareDAM and its derivational compounds. Aliphatic dibasic acid magnesium and aromaticdibasic acid magnesium are prepared as class DAM derivatives, and their syntheticprocess is optimized and discussed in details. All of these structures are confirmed andcharacterization by TGA, DSC and XRD. Additionally, these hybrid structurescontaining organic and inorganic component is usually best precursors for nano-scalematerials. Through different baking process, the DAM-based compounds are converted tothe nano-crystalline with several of crystalline phases and crystal size. This strategy isavailable with less cost and the optimum use of resources for chemicals and otherfunctional materials, which would increase the added value to meet multi-marketdemand.In this optimization procedure, magnesium phthalate is reported firstly usinghydrothermal synthesis method with magnesium oxide (A) and phthalic acid (B). Theimprovement from traditional way to hydrothermal synthesis one would simplifyoperation, enhance the purity and yields. The optimum mole ratio is located at1:1(A: B),the best reaction time is4h at180oC. The yields could reach97%.The results from spectra and thermal characterization show that the crystalline ofmagnesium adipate, glutaric acid and magnesium succinate are belong to monoclinicsystem with four water. While the crystalline phases of magnesium phthalate, terephthalic dicarboxylic is also belong to monoclinic one, but the crystal water is only2. Nanoscale MgO exhibited high purity complete lattice with cubic crystal systemfrom direct heat treatment of dibasic acid magnesium. This simply strategy is a bestchoice from direct thermal decomposition method for preparing nano-MgO due to manyadvantages like without adding solvents, inhibitors, simple operation, low cost, lowenvironmental pollution, etc.
