The control of the particle pollution in air becomes more and more important in recent years. Contrasting to other filters, fibrous filters have more excellence. Fibrous filters such as bag filters and cartridge dust collectors have high collection efficiency and could remove very small size particles (e.g. PM10, PM2.5) efficiently, so they can satisfy the increasingly strict standard of dust emission. But the filtration velocity of fabric filter is low because of the restriction of filter medium regeneration. Filter medium will be worn out easily and its operating life will be reduced, so it is hard to maintain fabric filters. Filter medium regeneration is non-uniform. The use of fabric filter in high temperature is limited for the restriction of filter medium.In this paper, a new method that removes ashes by air suction is developed. The system that collects dust by rotary drum which removed ashes by air suction with suction nozzles was designed. The effect of removing ashes could be improved and the filtration velocity of fabric filter could be increased. The operating life of filter medium was increased. This paper also discussed the feasibility that uses rotary drum deduster in high temperature. Based on the mathematical model for dynamic filtration efficiency of fiber filter, a mathematical model was set up to calculate the collection efficiency of rotary drum that removes ashes by air suction with suction nozzles. The relation between collection efficiency of rotary drum and time was ascertained. According to the theory of pressure drop of fabric filter and the theory of particles depositing on the filter medium, the mechanism that removes ashes by air suction was discussed. The effects of some designs and some operational parameters on filter medium regeneration were discussed and studied through experiments. The filtering performance of rotary drum deduster was also studied through experiments to check its feasibility and advantage. Those experiments provided experience to improve the design of rotary drum deduster.
