The safe operation of the power system is closely related to the pollution flashover. Preventing the pollution flashover of insulator is the most important means and measures to improve the safe operation of the power system. Distribution and change of filthy area is an important indicator of the power system high voltage overhead lines, substation electrical porcelain insulation selection. With the extra, ultra high voltage AC and DC power transmission development, electrical insulation in the pollution conditions seems even more prominent.This paper mainly discusses the influence of the power system natural pollution area on the environment, the principles and methods of monitoring line salt density and the reasons of insulators pollution flashover, and analyze the equivalence problem of artificial pollution laboratory and natural pollution laboratory. This paper proposes the solid layer method in the artificial pollution laboratory as the theoretical basis, through the method of equaling the monitoring value of the natural salt deposit density sensor and the standard value of artificial pollution laboratory in value, researching and developing the automatic line salt density monitoring devices to achieve remote data transmission to the office computer. At the same time, this paper optimizes the system from hardware and software to enable the system to meet the specific circumstances of the monitoring field site and achieve the requirements of the salt density of the line monitoring.Through the applications of automatic line salt density monitoring device, achieving online monitoring the salt density data of the regional power grid, combined with the field gray density measurement, this paper sorts out a complete set of operational data of the changes of pollution area, providing a more accurate basis for the work of the pollution flashover. It changes artificial regularly live sampling, manual cleaning on a regular basis, check the old-fashioned maintenance mode in the past, and improves the effectiveness of the work, achieves the purpose of gradual transition troubleshooting, planned maintenance to state maintenance.
