With the rapid development of modern architecture and industrial sectors, theusing of tower crane in high-rise building project is more extensive. While modernconstruction requirements increase, the performance of tower crane also needshigher requirements. Tower crane works in different states, movement couplingwould make the structure subjected to shock and vibration. Along with theincreasing of the tower crane structure size and working speed, the impact caused bythe vibration is more outstanding. However, the present domestic and foreign cranedesign specification do not have clear provisions to the dynamic characteristic of thetower crane.As tower crane’s structure is complex and has large degrees of freedom, theprocess of analysis its dynamic characteristics is very complicated and thecalculation is very large. In this paper, through establishing the equivalent model ofa tower crane, put forward a high efficiency method to analysis the dynamiccharacteristics of a tower crane using component modal synthesis.In order to know the dynamic characteristics of a tower crane, this paperdiscussed the principle of simplifying the complex structure of a real tower craneand the modeling process by finite element software. Established a model of a towercrane and modal analysis the model, using the result as a reference for the followinganalysis.Divide the crane model into substructures, using fixed interface componentmode synthesis to analysis each substructure and the whole structure, by comparingthe result with the result of the finite element method we know that using dynamicsubstructure can make the process of analysis the dynamic characteristics of acomplex structure easier and have high efficiency and high precision.Establish the equivalent model of the tower crane with reference to the result offinite element model, the equivalent model is much easier and has less freedoms.Divide the equivalent model into substructures, using fixed interface componentmode synthesis to get the stiff matrix and mass matrix of each substructure, combinethe substructures to get the whole structure, then analysis the whole structure’sdynamic characteristics. Using the matrix of each substructure can make the processof analysis the dynamic characteristics of a crane tower easier.
