Cable harness design is a complex and comprehensive subject, involvingelectromagnetic compatibility, mechanics, heat transfer, which includes routingcable harness, estimate the length of cable and evaluating of the assembly quality.It has a wide-ranging applied background in the manufacturing ofelectromechanical products, including satellite, vehicle, and so on. Meanwhile,mathematical analysis, modeling, and simulation of One-Dimensional ElasticObjects including cable, is an active field in computer graphics. Correlativetechnologies in virtual reality, such as Virtual Assembly, Augmented Reality andso on, also develops fast. In a word, Research in Cable harness Design andsimulation is significant and important.Up to now, Cable harness Design in spacecraft still relies on trials withphysical prototype, which is amongst the most costly item in process ofproduction. What’s more, it is unadapted for aerospace industry which developsso rapidly. Recent years, a new technology is proposed, which uses immersivevirtual reality rather than physical prototype and improves the efficiency ofdesigning and routing cable harness by enhancing the expertise of designers. Butit doesn’t consider the effects caused by electromagnetic compatibility, dynamicsand so on. It models cables based on the mass-spring system. It is not accurate, inmy opinion. All the effect, not only those caused by obstacle, should beconsidered. So we summarize various effects caused by different aspects. Aboveall, we present those effects in a form of limiter in spatial. Meanwhile, usingdiscrete differential geometry, we model cables with the thin elastic rod modeland get the cable’s equations of motion based on discrete treatment of adaptedframe curves. Based this model, using C++and OpenGL, we code a program andmake a simulation. Result show that it is accurate and easier to compute.
