After the9.11Incident which shocked the whole world, terrorist activities areincreasingly frequent nowadays, as a result of which, more and more attention ispaid to the anti-blast resistance of structures. As landmark buildings of a region andusually with dense population, large span space structures are quite probable tobecome the target of terrorist activities. Therefore, it is of great importance toinvestigate the mechanical properties of large span space structures under blast loadin order to effectively reduce economic loss of and casualties.CONWEP is a kind of software developed by the U.S. military which couldcalculate the blast load with high efficiency, and is embedded in the ANSYS/LS-DYNA. Calculation program of blast load through CONWEP is first introduced,and advantages and disadvantages are obtained through comparison of CONWEPand ALE algorithm. Feasibility and accuracy are verified in analyzing the dynamicresponse of structures and components under external blast loading throughCONWEP method.Single-layer reticulated dome model in the Kiewit system with a span of40mis obtained through ANSYS/LS-DYNA software, and dynamic response of themodel under external blast loading is analyzed through CONWEP method.Parametric analysis is carried out through change of explosives equivalent,explosives horizontal and vertical location, structure form, material properties andother parameters. Laws are investigated that typical structure response changingwith each parameter. Structure response of critical state of progressive collapse isanalyzed and expression of structure damage factor Dsis obtained which could beused to determine the state of structural damage.A reduced scale model of single-layer reticulated dome with a span of0.9m isdesigned for explosion test. A kind of flammable gas explosives——acetylene/airmixture is chosen to replace TNT explosives, and analysis method for reticulateddome is established based on explosion of flammable gas. Dynamic response analysis through ALE algorithm is performed to the test model under explosion ofacetylene/air mixture. Several typical damage states are obtained. Design scheme ofstructure model is determined as well as the volume of acetylene and air thatneeded to charge into during the test.
