With a deep development of the industrialization some social problems emerge, and the environmental pollution and the energy shortage are the most severeproblems, which the mankind are faced to and need to be solved. In this contextpeople are prompted to find and make use of new energy. The wind energy as aclean, renewable energy comes into the people’s vision. In recent years scientificresearch institutions has paid attention to the wind energy technology, which hasmade the technology develop. The wind turbine is a machine which converse the kinetic energy of wind intothe electrical energy, and leaves are its core parts. The wind turbine can be broadlydivided into two categories: horizontal axis wind turbines (HAWT) and vertical axiswind turbines (VAWT). After three decades years of development, the technologyof the horizontal axis wind turbine tends to be mature. With the progress ofscientific and technological level people start to pay attention to the vertical axiswind turbine. In the past, the vastly major form used in the design of vertical axiswind turbine is a single-layer structure. Based on this context the paper carries anaerodynamic performance analysis of a vertical axis wind turbine of a double-layerlayout.In the text, the development of the wind power industry is summarized, and adetailed presentation on the basis of the mathematical theory of the CFD calculation(Fluent software) and the solution process are generalized, as well as the CDFcomputing technology applied to the aerodynamic performance of vertical axis windturbine is introduced. According to the past experience the factors affecting theaerodynamic performance of wind turbines are summed up, that is, the installationangle of the blades, the blade airfoil of blades, the chord length of blades, the radiusof the installed blade and the number of the installed blades. The two-dimensionalwind turbine models with different structural parameters are established; and thefinal output results are about torque, output power and wind energy utilization underdifferent conditions. They are compared to achieve a goal of the optimal design.According to the results of the two-dimensional numerical simulation the verticalaxis wind turbine with rated power100kW will be designed, and through the resultof the three-dimensional CFD numerical simulation the rationality of the design ischecked. Finally the research results are based on the existing vertical axis wind turbine, there is an improvement of it. Hence they have certain guiding significance to an engineering practice.
