The set is layers arcuate bearing structure, which is on the top of capitals,in thejunction of post and beam. And, the bracket is square wood block between set and set, collectively, the bracket set. The bracket set nodes of ancient architecture used woodmaterials, and the modern antique buildings begin to appear the antique bracket setnodes which are made of concrete, metal and other materials. Because of the differentmaterials, the mechanical properties of bracket set which constituted by them are alsodifferent, and ultimately will affect the internal force distribution and mechanicalproperties of the overall structure. Therefore, the mechanics of bracket set nodes arestudied from the material.First of all, in this paper, the development course of Chinese ancient architectureis introduced, and the origin and development of bracket set nodes which is theimportant part in ancient architecture were introduced too. The domestic and foreignresearch data of bracket set node were collected and analysed, and the researchpresent situation of it was understood.Second, the model of wooden bracket set node was made with a ratio of a bucketmouth is equal to40mm proportion, which consult the basic structure of Qing stylebracket set and prototype of bracket set of the main hall of Confucian Temple ofXinjiang County of Yuncheng City of Shanxi Province. The material properties andload-displacement curve of wooden bracket set node were obtained from themechanics experiment of model. And the load-strain curve of each member ofbracket set were obtained from testing the strain of them, the damping characteristicsand vibration frequency of the bracket set were obtained from dynamic experiment. The test results can be used in simulation of the experiment, and can also be areference of similar test.Third, the numerical model of bracket set node is established by the finite elementsoftware ABAQUS after studying the result of structure model and calculation model, and The structural behaviour was simulated using quasi-static method. The FEmodeling results correlate closely with the experimental results, proving that the FEmodels are valid and reliable. Test and numerical analysis result shows that thevertical deflection of bracket set node increase with the static load increased; when bracket set is loaded, the top of ang member of bracket set subjected to tension andthe strain of it is linear relationship with load, and the change of different componentsfor the load is different with the load increased.Fourth, the mechanical property of wooden, concrete and steel bracket set nodewas study by using the numerical model established by finite element softwareABAQUS, the result shows the bearing capacity of concrete material bracket set nodeis lowest and the steel material is highest; the mechanical characteristics of big bucketwhich is the structure of bracket set node is not relevent to material; the forced state ofZhengxinwangong set which is he structure of bracket set node has some relationshipwith material, the forced state of concrete and steel bracket set node are similar andalso have the ribbon stress zone, the distribution of stress shows “W” type, thewooden bracket set node shows “M” type in the same area.Fifth, through the finite element numerical analysis of seismic performance ofdifferent materials bracket set node, it can be known that the three material bracket setnode have good seismic behavior, the steel bracket set node is highest and theconcrete is lowest in hysteretic load. The saturation of hysteretic curve of steel bracketset node is lower than wooden, which shows plastic deformation capacity of steelbracket set node is good.
