An individual leads his or her daily life in a certain architectural space. Adesigner pours his or her affections into the space, which in turn affects numerousspace occupants’ affections and leads to corresponding behaviors. Therefore, therelationship between architectural space forms and emotional experience is a topicthat deserves profound attention. Factors such as lighting, space variation and historyare directly related to people’s emotional experience. In a system comprising peopleand space, people are most important. It follows that a good design should bepeople-oriented, giving priority to people’s mental and physical demands. Awell-designed building can pull the string of people’s heart. That is where the essenceof a good design lies.The paper was divided into two parts. In the first part, the author introduced thetopic of the effect of architectural space forms on people’s emotional experience. Theresearch methodology, which integrated theory and practice, was described. Based onextensive literature review of relevant domestic and international researches, theauthor sorted out and analyzed relevant theories concerning the topic. And, the authorput forward a future theoretical direction. In the second part, the author made detailedanalysis into substantial domestic and international architectural cases and tracked outsome space among them that can express distinct personalities. A lot of surveys weremade too to study the relationship between architectural space and people’s emotionalexperience. To follow, the data was under serious investigation from the perspectiveof theories and practical cases. The summary and conclusion were drawn about theconcrete effect of architectural space on occupants’ emotional experience and theinfluential factors. In the end, the author presented discussion about how to utilizearchitectural space to brew occupants’emotions.
