With the development of the computer simulation technique, Desktop virtualreality system with the advantage of low cost and high efficiency has been favored bymany virtual reality research units and individuals. The VR technology is an effectiveway to discuss processing scheme, show the process of machining and improve productquality in the field of modern industry manufacture. At the same time, the properapplication of modern educational technology and the virtual reality technology inteaching can optimize the teaching by building virtual machine and virtual machiningsimulation environment.Quest3D engine is a powerful software platform to develop interactive real-time3D applications, which behaves better in graphics depicting and more economicalcomparing to similar software. Actually, the virtual machining system of horizontallathe is to show machining process of products in the virtual and digital manufacturewithout real manufacturing systems. In Quest3D engine for development platform, thisstudy combined the technology of3D modeling, model optimization and the collisiondetection technology and so on, according to general machine tool machining processcharacteristics, build a series he mechanical processing desktop virtual reality system ofgeneral machine tools (include: lathe series, drilling machine series, boring machineseries, grinding machine series, gear cutting machine, milling machine series, broachingmachine series, and other machine tools). The system includes function modules include:machine tools interaction module, the motion simulation module and mechanicalprocessing module. In the process of system development, the first to use threedimensional entity modeling technology to establish three-dimensional entity model ofmachine tools, cutting tools and spare parts; Then entity model into a surface model,and optimized the model imported into the Quest3D engine, finished machine virtualinteractions simulation, virtual machine tool interactive movement simulation, virtualinteractive simulation machining in Quest3D engine; finally the total exportprogram.exe executable file. Finally, the paper has realized the execution of the wholesystem on the ordinary PC, which lays a good foundation for the further development ofvirtual machining systems of the general lathe and other machines.In this thesis, there are three highlights:①Realized the simulation of machining process model real-time deformation by combined with the bounding box collision detection technology and model scaletransformation;②System designed to open the main interface by used finite state machine. We canmachine program is added in the system through the open interface of the maininterface, the design laid the foundation for improvement of the system and the furtherresearch.③Systems eventually export the.exe executable file, can run on the currentlyoperating system, and the low hardware requirements.
