Electromagnetic rail launch technology, which has a broad military applicationforeground, serves as one of the hottest top technologies at present. The C-shaped solidarmature, with many superior characteristics, is a popular armature style in the studies ofrail gun. As one of the principal components in the electromagnetic rail gun, its structuraldimensions directly influence the launch performance. During the launching process,powerful current flows through the contact surface between the rail and the armature, andthe local high temperature could result in ablation of the armature. And moreover, theaccelerating force exerted on the armature is the direct launching power for the projectile.From the two aspects, the optimization design of the structural dimensions of theC-shaped solid armature was conducted in this dissertation, wherein the finite elementsimulation by ANSYS, the orthogonal test design and response surface method, etc. wereemployed.With ANSYS software employed in this paper, the finite element analysis model wasestablished to numerically simulate the electromagnetic rail launch system, through whichthe force of the armature was analyzed and the distribution law of the current density inthe armature was eventually obtained; to change the physical dimensions of the armatureso as to seek for the influence law of single dimension change on the maximum currentdensity of the contact surface and the accelerating force exerted on the armature.Through the orthogonal test design with the test indicators, factors and levelsdetermined and the L16(44) orthogonal table chosen, the orthogonal test was conducted andthe result was analyzed to find the primary and secondary influence sequence of the fourdimensions of the armature on the simulation result and to further obtain a more optimumcombination of factor levels.The optimization design process was arranged based on the response surface method,wherein the optimization design model was built up, the undetermined coefficients weresolved, the response surface function was established and solved by the genetic algorithmto respectively find the optimal sizes of the armature to minimize the current density of the contact surface and maximize the accelerating force.The research conclusions in this dissertation, which could reduce the cost and shortenthe development cycle, have important significance for the research and design of theC-shaped solid armature of the electromagnetic rail gun.
