| China is a country short of water resources; however, at the same time, it oftensuffers from rainstorms and floods. As this problem becomes worse in recent years,some cities in China are facing a situation in which water is both an important needand a significant concern. As nowadays the ecosystem is becoming affectedseriously every day, urban design, as a space design approach, should not be limitedto solving the problems only in terms of landscape planning. Instead, it should havemore focus on the improvement of ecosystem and security. With these in mind, it isboth necessary and urgent to introduce to China the WSUD approach whichintegrates urban comprehensive water management and urban space design. Becauseof that, WSUD which is integrated with water management and urban design isapplied to urban design of China, and proposed the overall framework and designstrategy for its applied in our country. By use of it, It can not only alleviate urbanwater problems, but also can improve the urban space environment quality.The paper first introduces the basic concept of WSUD, and then retrospectiveanalysis the present research situation of WSUD. From the analysis, the paperfoundthe gaps and deficiencies in the research progress, and fina lly clear the importanceof introduce WSUD to our country.Then, the paper launched the basic research of WSUD on the basicunderstanding of the WSUD. The paper demonstrated the urgency and feasibilityand adaptability through the analysis of present water problem and the advantages ofWSUD. Based on this, This paper construct WSUD ternary system developmentmode to build on the overall frame of our country WSUD application. After that, thispaper expounded the basic content of the ternary system of WSUD from the aspectsof the mode theoretical foundation, the basis of practice, design content and designgoals. And the water safety, water ecology and the water landscape are mix togetherto construct the WSUD ternary system development model. And based on thispremise, paper summarized a set of processes that contain from goal determinationto site analysis. Take the above characteristics and the princ iples of the ternarysystem into consideration, paper WSUD application evaluation system for ourcountry.Finally the WSUD idea is used in the urban design program of Changchun.Based on the idea of WSUD,with the onsite hydrological conditions taken intoaccount, we built a water sensitive safe space pattern. Moreover, according to theobjectives and characterization of WSUD, we divided the space pattern into threeparts, which are secure space pattern and ecological space pattern and landscape space pattern respectively. Each of them has its own strategy, and three of themwork together to build a water-sensitive space function network, and verify itseffectiveness.This paper, starting from the analysis of the current urban development ofChina where water is both needed and concerned, proposes new ideas and methodsof applying WSUD in the urban design of this district from the perspective ofintegrating urban water management and urban space design. This paper aims toprovide scientific references to the advancement of WSUD as well as to helpachieve the objective of healthy and sustainable urban development. |
