Since the beginning of the design, coordinate measuring machine aims atmeasuring precisely and efficiently. CMM is a necessary measuring instrument inmodern industrial measurement, quality control and manufacturing technology. CMMcan represent the ability of industrial design and manufacturing of the country. As thedevelopment of modern processing and manufacturing, there come more and moreoperating requirements. Special measuring machine is used in the measurement ofspecial industrial products. Take the cylinder liner as an example. As an axisymmetricbody, it is an important part widely used in internal combustion engine. Traditionalrotary measuring instrument cannot measure it precisely and efficiently. Thus specialmeasuring machine should be designed to meet the measurement requirements.The coordinate measuring machine of axisymmetric body belongs to θFXZcoordinate measuring machine. With contact and non-contact measuring technology,its strong suitability and openness can meet the measuring requirement of highefficiency and precision.The main content and work are listed as follows:1. The structure of traditional coordinate measuring machine is improved and themachine’s mechanical structure is designed as a θFXZ coordinate measuring machine.The design includes such work as reducing system, air balance system, single axisrobot and so on. The stability of some important parts is proved by simulation. A fullclosed-loop is established with transmission mechanism, motion control card, servodrive and grating.2. The floating rail system is designed according to the structure character of themeasuring machine. The possible influences to the measuring machine caused bydifferent kinds of floating pads are discussed. The dimensions of floating pads arecalculated considering the load of the machine. Pneumatic control system is designedaccording to logic of control circuit.3. A motion controlling system is established based on PMAC. WithPMAC-PC/104motion controlling card as the core and IPC as the platform, an openmotion controlling system is established. It adopts the double CPUs structure of "IPC+PMAC". PMAC carries out real time control of multiple motion axis bycalculating the system’s motion control programs. The IPC carry out non-real timetasks such as parameter management and statistics as a host computer. The systemachieves the requirement of quick measurement at last.4. The source of measuring machine’s error is analyzed. The geometric errors arecalibrated by the laser interferometer. The measuring machine is tested under the workenvironment. The controlling system is carried out with the complete hardware andsoftware control. It meets the design requirement of performance.
