The steel structure with high strength, good plasticity and light weight has beenwidely used in recent years. However, the corrosion of the steel can’t be avoided.Under the influence of long-term corrosion, the bearing capacity of the steel structurewill be greatly reduced and the service life will become short. Corrosion causes hugeeconomic losses each year. As Chinese economic and social development, Chinaalready has the conditions for the rapid development of steel structure, so the study ofcorrosion principles and the law of development, the establishment of thecorresponding time-dependent reliability prediction model has great significance.1.This paper summarizes the principle of corrosion of steel, and put togetherseveral existing prediction the atmospheric corrosion regular steel model, and focuseson the power function model. According to the law of atmospheric corrosion of steel,This part analyzes the impact of the steel tube capacity considering corrosion. Amethod to limit material strength design value is used to discuss how to set asidesufficient safety reserves.2.This paper summarizes the reliability theory and computational methods.According to the law of the atmospheric corrosion, the time-dependent reliabilitymodels of steel structure has been proposed. Tianjin Polytechnic University roof largespan steel structure is chosen as an example, MATLAB and finite element analysissoftware ANSYS are used to analyze the time-dependent reliability of this structure.The calculation results show that the proposed time-dependent reliability predictionmodel is correct.3.This paper summarizes the whole life cost components and calculation modelof the steel structure, studies the impact of the time-dependent reliability related to themaintenance and repair and optimizes the maintenance strategy of the TianjinPolytechnic University roof large span steel structure with three kinds of coatingsystems based on LCCA.
