Orthotropic steel deck is an integral structure composed of bridge deck,longitudinal stiffener rib and diaphragm plate, which are bearing upper loads together.At the present time, orthotropic steel deck is the main structural system of long-spansteel bridge. In this paper, Hai Men Bridge and Hai He Bridge in Tianjin is the objectof study FE models of Hai Men Bridge and Hai He Bridge were built using finiteelement software ABAQUS. This paper researches mechanical properties and fatigueperformance on orthotropic steel deck with open-shaped stiffener ribs andclose-shaped stiffener ribs, and compares the mechanical properties of differentdiaphragm plate drillings and longitudinal rib sections in the diaphragm plate. Themain contents of the paper are showed as follows:(1) Under static load, it researches stress distribution in the diaphragm plate ofHai Men Bridge and Hai He Bridge, determines lateral disadvantageous load positionof Hai Men Bridge and Hai He Bridge, and determines the fatigue crack position ofthe diaphragm plate. It compares influences between submodel and global model onstress distribution.(2) Applying the simplified fatigue load spectrum which was determined byinvestigating the traffic, it analyzes fatigue stress of Hai Men Bridge and Hai HeBridge, plots stress-time curves and stress spectrums of different structure details.(3) Fatigue life in different structure details of Hai Men Bridge and Hai HeBridge is evaluated by design methods in BS5400, AASHTO LRFD, GB50017-2003and local stress-strain method. It compares difference between the four methods.(4) Taking Hai He Bridge as the research background, it compares influences offive types of diaphragm plate drillings and seven types of longitudinal rib sections onstress distribution in the diaphragm plate, and proposes the reasonable type ofdiaphragm plate drilling and longitudinal rib section.
