The inland junction construction in China often gave priority to the benefit of floodprotection, power generation and so on in the past. The attention for the navigationconstruction was insufficient. However, with the development of economy and society,the demand of the green inland river shipping is rapidly increasing. River canalizationmay fundamentally improved the navagition condition and enhanced the channel grade,but during the course of junction design and construction, the navigation structures areoften arranged at unsatisfactory places because of some limiting factors, that leads toships cannot safely go through the navigation structures. Therefore, it is of greatimportance to investigate the best navagition condition for the junction project. Physicalmodel tests of fixed bed with remote-controlled self-propulsion ship modelwas applied toinvestigate the one-way navigation flow condition of downstream entrance area ofGuiping double-line ship lock. A plan layout of double-line ship lock is recommended.The double-way navigation flow condition of downstream entrance area was alsoinvestigated through model tests. The results of the study indicate that:(1) Thenavigation flow condition of the upstream lock entrance is good for satisfying therequirements of the normal navigation. Shortening the length of the flow-separation leveebetween the double-line ship locks is favorable for navigation condition of the fisrt shiplock.(2) Downstream entrance area of Guiping double-line ship lock is located in riverbend, it’s navigation flow condition is poor without the jacking of Qianjiang River. Thecisoid diversion pier adopted in this study can improve the flow condition of downstreamentrance area of ship lock. At last, the diversion pier is optimized through model test andthe general plan layout of the ship lock is proposed The results of flow condition test andship model test in conditions of varied flow rate indicate that the downstream entranceareas of the first-line and the second-line ship locks can satisfy the requirements ofnavigation flow conditions. For the recommended plan, the flow’s direction has beencorrected, the intensity of inclined flow and the back flow have been decreased. Innormal conditions, the flow condition of downstream entrance area meets the expectationof safety for double-way navigation.
