With the rapid development of industry and the continuous progress of technology,turbocharger has been widely used in automobile, shipbuilding, aerospace and otherfields. As one of the key parts of turbocharger rotor system, the sliding bearing hasbecame the most important factors in improving the efficiency of turbocharger,reducing fuel consumption and enhancing the operation reliability. In view of thecurrent condition of complex operation and poor operating environment of high speedand high temperature, the normal sliding bearing and rolling bearing can not satisfy theneeds of modern turbocharger rotor high-speed operation, which replaced byfloating-ring journal bearing.At present the research information on floating-ring bearing of turbocharger hasnot formed the design specification, and considering the advantages of floating-ringbearings, this paper researches the floating-ring bearing design technology based onthe concrete structure, and some conclusions are obtained, which provided sometechnical support for the design of floating-ring bearing.Firstly, this paper introduces the study and application status at home and abroad.The materials, lubrication, structure parameter for floating-ring bearing are researched.It gives an overview of the performance of floating ring bearing materials should meetthe requirements and proposes how to chose the floating-ring bearing materialreasonably. According to the lubrication theory, the basic equation of bearinglubrication was derived. The lubricant and the selection of lubricating mode werediscussed, and then put forward the design process of floating-ring bearing structureparameters.Secondly, based on the finite difference method, the static characteristics,dynamic characteristics and stability of floating-ring journal bearing were studied. Inthe aspects of static characteristics, the oil film pressure distribution was calculated andsimulated, as well as the relationship between the changes of oil film pressureincreases and the eccentricity, width-diameter ratio. And then it computed the oil filmpressure by using the Dyrobes software. On the dynamic characteristics hand, thecomposition of oil film was discussed, stiffness and damping coefficients werecalculated, and the stability of oil film was analyzed and identified. At last, it proposedthe feasible way to improve the stability of turbocharger’s floating-ring journal bearing.Finally, it states the failure type of floating-ring bearing from the four aspects ofdesign, manufacture, material and application through analyzing the failure offloating-ring journal bearing. And then it proposes the prediction method of floatingring bearing life.The paper perfects the floating-ring bearing of turbocharger and playing a goodeffect in designing process and specification.
