The development of high speed railway demands for the higher flatness of the welded joint. As one of the most important processes in rail welding, the grinding appearance of welded joints exerts significant effect on its flatness, and then influences the rail’s working life and the safety as well as comfort of passengers. The grinding appearance of welded joints on the site mainly relies on the sustainable development of rail grinding technology, while the domestic researches are still in their infancy at present and the hand operationed small grinding equipments applied in actual production of the rail are still mainly manually operated, by which, the grinding appearance of welded joints has a large dependence on the workers’ proficiency. Hence, it is definitely importance to launch the precision grinding technology of the welded joints on the site which was digital controled,In this study, a digital controled technology which was applied to precision profiling grinding of,the welded joints on the site was researched, based on a precision profiling grinding operation which required in the preserve of existing line. The adopts the integration process in which profile modelling structure is used, motor is taken as the drive, industrial computer is the central system and PLC is the slave system,in addition, it can grind the road and guide surfaces precisely. It is able to achieve precise profile modeling process, preset, modify and save the parameters, and achieve the real time monitoring of the profiling process, which can improve the grinding quality of the actual welding joints and be more widely used in engineering.By debugging and running of the system, it indicates that the designed system is reasonable and the grinding appearance can reach the standard requirement of TB/T1632-2005in rail welding. The system designed in this study has the feature of convenient movement, and higher operating efficiency because it can work both at the left and right side of the rail at the same time. The results shows that the rail joints profiling grinding system meet the enginering requirements.
