Vehicle occupant restraint system is one of the most important passive safetydevices of the car. Its safety performance is relation to the vehicle occupant safety incar collision accidents. Therefore, China and all the countries in the world establishcorresponding regulation and test equipment for the safety testing of vehicle occupantrestraint system. In this background, according to the domestic and foreign relevantregulations, this paper developed vehicle occupant restraint system comprehensivetest-bed.First, this paper conducted in-depth research on domestic and foreign regulations.Based on this, the design request of the vehicle occupant restraint system wasanalyzed and overall design scheme of vehicle occupant restraint systemcomprehensive test-bed was proposed. Secondly it carried on a study towards themechanical system and liquid system and detailed introduced the structure andworking principle of the mechanical system and liquid system. Selection of maincomponents such as the electric motor and reduction device、hydraulic valve etc wasdone. Strength checking of the stressed test-bed and hydraulic cylinder was conducted.Using the virtual instrument technology developed the measurement and controlsystem of vehicle occupant restraint comprehensive system. The working principleand control procedure of the measurement and control system of the test-bed wasformulated. The measurement and control system was designed through hardwarechoosing and software developed. Working principle of data acquisition card andtransducer was researched, technology parameters of data acquisition card andtransducer was introduced in detail. Using LabVIEW designed software of themeasurement and control system, the modular design idea was used in the softwaredevelopment, the development of data acquisition subroutine, force loading controlsubroutine and data storage subroutine was conducted. At last, the test of a massproduction domestic car’s seat, headrest and safety belt was carried out to verify theoperation of the test-bed. Test results show that the designed vehicle occupantrestraint comprehensive test bed can conduct test of vehicle seat, headrest and safetybelt in according with regulations and can obtain the accurate stiffness test data whichused in CAE modeling.
