As the most widely used power transmission device in gearbox, the gear system may produce vibration at work, which is the main factor to make dynamic performance of the gear transmission system worsen. Considering the dynamic performance of the transmission gear system will change at high speed or at varying environmental temperatures, based on studying nonlinear dynamics of the gear system, the nonlinear dynamic characteristics of gear system considering temperature effect are studied, and the influence of temperature effect to the dynamic response of the gear transmission system is analyzed. The results provide theoretic support to control the vibration noise of the gear system.Based on the influence of the thermal deformation to dynamics of gear system, a nonlinear single-degree-of-freedom dynamic model for a spur gear pair system with temperature effect is established where the backlash, the time-varying meshing stiffness and the transmission error are considered. The nonlinear single degree of freedom equations are solved by employing Runge-Kutta integration method, based on bifurcation analysis, the nonlinear dynamic response of gear system with temperature effect is discussed, and the dynamic characteristics of the system are analyzed for backlash, temperature changing, and the dynamic responses of the gear dynamics at different temperatures are compared. The results show that the temperature can have a great influence on dynamic characteristics of the gear pair, and can change the vibration amplitude of the transmission error. The temperature effect on the gear dynamics is relevant to the initial value of backlash, so the stable motion characteristics of the system can be obtained by proper matching of the initial backlash value with temperature. Therefore, the gear backlash can be rationally selected according to the specific work environment temperature in the process of assembling and design.The coexistence of multiple solutions in the system state space and the structure of periodic solution for system are studied by using Quasi-Fixed-Point Tracing Method in the gear system model considering temperature effect. The influence of varying temperatures to the structure of periodic solution for gear system is analyzed, which reveals the inner mechanism of temperature effects on dynamic characteristics of nonlinear gear system. The result can provide theoretical basis for further improvement of the gear transmission performance in various harsh conditions.
