With the rapid development of world economy, the worldwide energy shortage andenvironmental pollution have become the two major barriers that are hinders to the sustainabledevelopment of human society and great efforts to develop alternative energy has become theconsensus of mankind. Photovoltaic power with its unique advantages has come one of the futurepotential of alternative energy. In the photovoltaic power generation system, the maximum powerpoint tracking is one of its key technologies and this technology can effectively improve thephotovoltaic efficiency. In this paper, for the maximum power point of photovoltaic powergeneration system of tracking technology systematic theoretical study and experimental research,the main research contents and results are as follows:(1) Introduces the principle of PV power generation, the introduction of a mathematicalmodel of the photovoltaic cells and analyzed the output characteristics of photovoltaic cells. Focuson the principle of the photovoltaic power generation system, a typical maximum power pointtracking method, analyzing and comparing the advantages and disadvantages of each method.(2) Analysis of the mathematical model of the photovoltaic cells, the derivation of aphotovoltaic cell output power available near the maximum power point output voltage of thepolynomial approximation to the conclusion, provides a theoretical basis for the interpolation toestimate the maximum power point of photovoltaic cells, and gives more than approximate error.(3) The variable step size Newton quadratic interpolation algorithm thought to estimate themaximum power point of photovoltaic cells, compared to the commonly used Lagrange quadraticinterpolation method, the efficiency of the algorithm to track the real-time strong on processorperformance requirements is not high, easy programming.(4) Set up the experimental platform, Detailed discussion of the choice of the key parametersof the platform. Comparative experiments verify the feasibility and superiority of the variable stepsize Newton quadratic interpolation to estimate the Photovoltaic Maximum Power Point.
